Membership FAQ

What will I do during my first few chorus visits?

One of the first things you will do (after being enthusiastically greeted by everyone in the chorus) will be to have a voice placement evaluation. It's a simple set of vocal exercises designed to ensure that you're placed into the appropriate voice part (Tenor, Lead, Baritone or Bass).

Once the director places you in a section, you will be assigned a "buddy" to assist you during the rehearsal. You will be given a guest book containing all the current chorus repertoire. You can start singing right away! Of course, if you prefer to sit and observe at first, that's OK too -- take it at your own pace.

Is there an audition?
No. We simply need to find your voice part within the chorus and what works best for you. We'll help you find what part is best by having you sing for him. Don't worry, he won't push you out of your comfort zone!

Do I have to be a great singer?

No.  We provide education for members to improve their singing ability and tools to learn music outside of chorus rehearsal. Most men have what it takes if they just give it a try!

I can’t read music. How do I learn the songs?

The ability to read music is not required. We have learning music that you can download from our members section of the website and play in your car or at home.  It has your part predominant to make learning easy for you.  Some of our members are good sight-readers, but many of our guys learn from these learning tracks.

Is there an age limit on who can sing?

There is no age limit. We encourage men and boys of all ages to participate.

What sort of music do you sing?

We perform a variety of styles from choral arrangements to barbershop to doo-wop to jazz and contemporary a cappella. Our chorus is affiliated with the Barbershop Harmony Society.

How often does the chorus perform?

We perform locally and compete regionally. Typically, we produce one major concert, compete at two regional contests, and put on several community performances throughout the year.
