Singing the Songs that Touch America's Heart!

Meet The Cheery-O's

The Cheery-O’s Barbershop Quartet was organized in 2003.  The father and sons quartet offers a unique sound possible only with the aid of genetics.  You may ask, “How do you get three boys to sing with their father?”  “Simple” says Dad, “Figure out what is most dear to their hearts and threaten to withhold it until after rehearsal.”  For us, it was supper…..we rehearsed a lot!

In 2005 the Cheery-O’s were named Division Novice Champions ranking 5th overall in the Packerland Division Competition, and 11th in the Land-O-Lakes District Competition.  Moving up in 2007, they were 2nd at Division and 10th at District.  In 2008 they became Packerland Division Champions, and in 2009 were ranked 5th in LOL District Competion.  The Cheery-O's competed in Division One in 2010, winning the Division Championship.

Singing tenor is Joshua Oxley.  He lives with his wife Holly in Waunakee, WI. He works at a Madison area Bio-Lab as a “sample coordinator” and continues to attend school.  Joshua was the founding director of the Oshkosh West H.S. Barbershop Chorus, and is currently director for the Madison Capital Chordsmen and a member of “Mad Harmony”, a Madison chapter quartet.  Joshua is the District Director for the Youth in Harmony Program.

Nathan Oxley sings lead in the quartet.  He is a “sliver picker” (carpenter) in Middleton, WI.  When he isn’t busy taping up the day’s wounds (he once put a hammer through his lip) he spends much of his free time doing carpentry work for his cheap family members who know a good deal when they spot it.  He is always willing to take on a new project which we think is related to having ADD.  Of course, we can’t prove this because he never finished the ADD testing.   Nathan lives in Sauk City, WI with his wife Andrea.  He is a former member of the “Sawdust City Slickers”.

Jacob Oxley sings baritone with the Cheery-O’s.  He is pursuing a degree at UW-Whitewater in music education.  He is an eligible bachelor (as of graduation in 2012).  Jacob is a former director of the Oshkosh West H.S. Barbershop Chorus, and sings with “Counterpoint”, which medaled at District Competition in October of 2009.

Our bass, (We have no bass – genetics….remember?  “Just have the old guy do it.”) is Todd Oxley.  He and his wife Robin live in Oshkosh.  Todd is a retired music educator with 33 years in the trenches.  Todd sang tenor with “The Crowd Pleasers”, a barbershop quartet named Goodwill Ambassadors for UW-Stevens Point Alumni back in the ‘70’s.  He sings lead with “The Sawdust City Slickers” quartet which continues to perform in it’s 25th year.  And now he sings bass.  I guess you could say he is moving down in the world.  After a long furlough, Todd is once again directing the Winnebagoland Barbershop Chorus; “The best group of guys around.”

Together, they are the Cheery-O’s.  Cheery because they are doing what they love to do, and “O’s” …….Well they are all Oxley’s!
